I’m Zoe, originally from the UK but currently living in Taiwan. I’m studying my PhD in Political Science and work in marketing for Koryo Tours, as well as freelance writing and tour leading.
I have loved travelling every since I started over a decade ago, always finding new ways to travel on a budget and trying to visit those places others don’t. This love comes from a constant desire to learn and to be proven wrong. I enjoy learning about others’ way of life and cultures different from my own.
What fun is it to be right all the time? How else should we learn?
My first trip to North Korea opened my eyes to how the media can impact how we see the world as I was surprised by what I saw and experienced; surprisingly underwhelming.

I have a passion for opening minds and helping the world see what I see; beyond the headlines and beyond the media narrative. I channel this into the multiple social media channels I run, including a YouTube channel, two podcasts, and TikTok, and two instagrams (Worldwide Adventures – @ZoeDiscovers), (North Korea – @ZoeDiscoversNK).

Do you work for the North Korean government?
No. I have never worked with the North Korean government in any capacity.
Is your content North Korean propaganda?
That depends on your definition of propaganda. My content is not government funded or sponsored. It is one sided – because it aims to expand the narrative on North Korea and balance the picture; the western media shows one side, I show another.
Do you live in North Korea?
No. I’m currently based in Taiwan. I usually travel to North Korea on average once a month (pre-COVID).
